wind chimes

Wind chimes produce clear, pure tones when struck by a mallet or suspended clapper. A wind chime usually consists of a set of individual alloy rods, tuned by length to a series of intervals considered pleasant. These are suspended from a devised frame in such a way that a centrally suspended clapper can reach and impact all the rods. When the wind blows, the clapper is set in motion and randomly strikes one or more of the suspended rods– causing the rod to vibrate and emit a tone.

Material used

Wind chimes can be made of materials other than metal or wood and in shapes other than tubes or rods. Other wind chimes materials include glass, bamboo, shell, stone, earthenware, stoneware, beads, keys and porcelain. More exotic items, such as silverware or cookie cutters, can also be recycled to create wind chimes. The tone depends on factors such as the material, the exact alloy, heat treatment, and whether a solid cylinder or a tube is used.

Wind Chime Dos and Don’ts

Some common pieces of advice for using wind chimes include:
• Don’t hang wind chimes over a door so that it can be hit by people or the door itself.

• Don’t hang metal wind chimes in trees, since the metal element will clash with the wood in the tree. Wooden chimes are okay when hung in trees.

• Don’t hang wind chimes where people will sit or sleep directly under them. The energizing influence can be disturbing to people in direct contact.

• Do use wind chimes in areas that gather clutter. The chimes will break apart the “stickiness” of the energy in these areas and make them easier to keep clean.

The Myths and Beliefs Surrounding Wind Chimes

1)In Feng Shui it is believed that By placing wind chimes, you can counter negativity and usher in good luck or fortune in several aspects of your life, such as love, wealth, and health.

2)Many believe that the wind chime can help determine the possible weather. For one, it can be utilized to determine where the wind is coming from.

3)On one hand, wind chimes are hung to get rid of evil spirits. On the other, the soothing sounds produced by the chimes can attract ghosts to drop by and perhaps lounge at your house. This is because they can call up the dead.

Wind chimes do not really usher in good luck. Your fortune will depend on your dedication to work. It is not a reliable tool for predicting the weather either. It moves at the slightest wind movement, and it is not the reason why ghosts will haunt you. But they are adored by many because they are beautiful, and their sounds will definitely bring forth calm and serenity to anyone who gets to listen to them.
